Walk Into Hangzhou’s Autumn

Autumn in Hangzhou is more than West Lake.

This walk takes you into the hills behind the city, following a route through Nine Creeks, quiet forest paths, tea villages and osmanthus-filled neighborhoods.

Along the way, we’ll pass a peaceful temple hidden in the hills, stop for coffee at a quirky cat-themed café, wander through Yangmeiling village, and make our way down toward Manjuelong — one of Hangzhou’s loveliest places during osmanthus season.

It’s a relaxed way to experience a different side of Hangzhou: part nature walk, part village wandering, and part local life.

No rushing from attraction to attraction.
Just a good walk, beautiful scenery, and a few interesting stops along the way.

DETAILED ITINERARY

|

Streams, forest paths & a peaceful start

After picking you up from your hotel, we’ll head to Nine Creeks, where our hike begins. We’ll follow a beautiful path alongside clear streams and lush greenery, with the sound of flowing water accompanying us as we ease into the day.

Tea hills & slow village life

From Nine Creeks, we’ll make our way up toward Yangmeiling, a peaceful village surrounded by Hangzhou’s famous Longjing tea fields. We can wander through the village, stop at a cozy café, and perhaps try an osmanthus latte while enjoying the slower pace of life here.

Coffee, cats & a little surprise

Time for a fun break. At this quirky cat-themed café, we can grab a coffee, browse the small craft shop and spend some time with the resident cats. You can also try their unusual water fortune-telling experience.

A little Spirited Away moment

Next, we’ll stop by Tangwu, a photogenic building that feels like it belongs in a Studio Ghibli world. We’ll find a good viewpoint on the hillside for photos — especially beautiful when the weather is clear.

Time to rest & refuel

After visiting Tangwu, we’ll take a well-earned lunch break and enjoy a local meal together. Lunch is included in the experience, so you can simply sit back, recharge and get ready for the second half of our walk.

Follow the scent of osmanthus

We’ll continue through Manjuelong, one of Hangzhou’s loveliest places during osmanthus season. In autumn, the fragrance fills the streets, while small roadside stalls sell local treats like osmanthus cakes, osmanthus wine and sweet lotus-root powder.

Hidden caves & an autumn garden

Our final stop is Shiwudong, where interconnected caves lead you past Buddhist figures carved into the stone walls. Outside, a peaceful courtyard filled with osmanthus trees makes for a lovely ending to our autumn walk.
